John Mellencamp, the famend singer-songwriter who famously sang “Ain’t That The usa,” used to be pictured sitting for the nationwide anthem throughout the Indianapolis Colts-Philadelphia Eagles sport Sunday.
Mellencamp used to be in a field top above Lucas Oil Stadium, and one NFL fan snapped the image and despatched it to OutKick 360’s Dan Dakich. The singer used to be observed sitting and consuming popcorn whilst others round him had their arms over their hearts and taking note of “The Big name-Spangled Banner.”
The 71-year-old up to now has been an open supporter of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the Black Lives Topic motion. Kaepernick created a firestorm in 2016 when he protested throughout the nationwide anthem prior to NFL video games. His resolution to take a knee to deliver consideration to police brutality and racial injustice used to be met with scorn and reward.
In 2018, simply days prior to Tremendous Bowl LI at U.S. Financial institution Stadium, Mellencamp seemed at the “Overdue Display with Stephen Colbert” and took a knee and raised a fist within the air after making a song “Simple Goal.”
Mellencamp blamed then-President Trump and his management for politicizing Kaepernick’s resolution to kneel.
“Taking the knee began purely and easily as a protest of racial and social injustice,” Mellencamp advised the Related Press on the time. “Unfortunately, it used to be politicized by means of the present management. The music is modest and the protest is natural.”
On Sunday, the Eagles would get the most productive of the Colts 17-16.
