Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot posted a TikTok of her making a song karaoke on Wednesday amid a citywide 37% building up in violent crime when in comparison to 2021.

Lightfoot made the TikTok to promote Chicago’s karaoke pageant, which runs till Nov. 6.

“It’s time to sing your hearts out, Chicago! Our karaoke pageant is beginning Sunday and can pass till Nov. sixth. Now’s your time to polish,” the video caption on Lightfoot’s TikTok states.

Her video comes as town is seeing a 37% building up in violent crime when in comparison to the similar time frame in 2021. Thus far, extra violent crime is being reported in Chicago in 2022 than annually since 2018, in line with statistics from the Chicago Police Division.

The Chicago Sings Karaoke pageant runs from Oct. 9 via Nov. 6. The winner will obtain a $5,000 prize.

Lightfoot unveiled her proposed Town Corridor finances on Monday, which contains an building up within the Chicago Police Department’s finances by way of $64 million, and can upload 35 positions, in line with WTTW.
